Where to Get Free Images for Your Website with the Right Licence or Public Domain and CC0 Images

Let’s start with what do I mean by Free Images for Your Website. The vast majority of the images available as free stock images fall under the Creative Commons Attribution-Sharealike 2.0 license. Which is fine… for blogging but for something that is going to be licensed under GPL or your company website you will need Public Domain or CCO images. The website I will feature in this article are dedicated galleries for CC0 licensed stock photography and graphics.

For everyone who is just starting with his website, blog, graphic design or web design career I want to share this: Start a personal images collection or library to gather images in. I have those as folders on my PC but you can use whatever you feel like the best image gallery software or website. Whenever you find something you think it might be useful tag it and bag it in your library.

Note: The places below are not ordered in any fashion so in this list there is no “The Best” title. If you need the perfect images my suggestion is to go through all of them.

Well this one to me is looking more like social network for images. Searching for a particular thing is a bit limited but the site has some great stuff. If you decide to make a library as the one I have on my pc you can literally spend hours in this one.

StockSnap is a very good place to find a CC0 images. One of the best features here is the adequate search which will help you find the right image among the huge library this website has. I actually changed one of our homepage backgrounds with an image I just found in SnapStock.

In Pexels you can find really high quality images but one of the most interesting things here is that the images are usually tagged nice so you can find what you need fast. Worth mentioning is that the site has very nice gallery of images for services which is very handy when creating a company website.

Another website which has serious volume of images and a great search option. In Pixabay I really love the Editor’s Choice selection the last time I check it I ended up downloading around fifty images for my library, I’m sure that they will make a website very beautiful.
